Welcome

St Albans Chess Club welcomes chess players of all levels. 

We meet throughout the year on Monday evenings, except Bank Holidays, from 7.30 pm at The County Club, 29 Ridgmont Road. Our venue is located conveniently close to St Albans City Thameslink (platform 4).

League and KO Cup matches normally start at 7.45 pm.

Our teams compete in local competitions organised by Hertfordshire Chess Association (HCA) and Hertford & District League, which include:

• Hertfordshire League
• Hertfordshire Knockout Cups
• Hertfordshire u1600 League
• Puller Cup
• Hertford & District u1900 League
• Hertford & District Jamboree

Many of our members play for Hertfordshire in East Anglian (EACU) and Southern Counties (SCCU) County Championships. County matches take place on Saturdays.

The club also organises St Albans Chess Congress, an annual weekend 5-round Swiss, which next takes place at St Columba's College on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th April 2026.
