H&D Blitz Tournament: St Albans Finish Second

A team from St Albans took part in the annual H&D Blitz tournament on Thursday 21st July. It was oganised by Matt Read and hosted at Allenburys Sports & Social Club, Ware.

The competition followed a round robin format with each of the seven teams taking a bye in one round. Teams comprised five players (graded under 160 ECF) arranged in approximate grade order. The time control was 10 minutes per player for all moves (Blitz rules). Being an end of season social event, the games were not sent for grading.

Allenburys Sports & Social Club provided a buffet and, of course, drinks were available from the bar.

Stevenage dominated by winning five matches and drawing one to finish on 11 match points. St Albans (8 match points) played strongly and finished second, closely followed by Hertford and Bishops Stortford who finished joint third. The other teams competing were Welwyn Hatfield Chess Forum, Hemel Hempstead and Allenburys.
